kick back with standard bars can ruin many a decent carving. Yours came out ok tho. Thats a lovely pair of polka-dot carving slippers you have there :)

:laugh1: Thanks Dervish, lol. Got em in size 11 too. lol.

First ever crack at carving, didnt draw it out & changed mind about three times during the carv what'd be. Enjoyed it though .. great fun .. wont be rushin into another straight after though. haha

Good first effort mate, we all start somewhere. Check out this masterpiece.

Yours is better than mine.

Not as easy as it looks is it dude. When bit more spare fundings about .. (after gettin more kit) .. I'll look into gettin Carving bar, etc .. Had fun doing it so far, so probs take it up as a hobby. Still a good effort on your part mate fair do's. :thumbup1:

well, if you do feel like going back, try a simpler shape :)

try a hare or a dolphin or something with a simple basic-shape (not saying they easy to carve, just have a simpler shape) and less chances of irritating the mule (getting kicks).

carefull tho, once you get the carving bug thats it for life. i used to do do all kinds of stuff in my spare time... now i carve and little else :)

Cheers dude I understand what you mean, easier shapes n lines etc .. Its better and more enjoyable doing this instead of watching it burn thats for sure. Still, keeping busy is another main aim & the smell of the spruce in the back room is fresh (Bringin the outdoor .. in. lol). Might go for an owl next .. jus saw this n was impressed .. Simpler cuts by looks ..

yep, that would be a good one to try. there are some fairly decent 'patterns' out there (or even on here, try a search) that gives you an idea of the blocking-out cuts to do first. I think getting teh blocking out is the most important part, it sets teh proportions for everything. but i never used to bother until i started doing much more complex shapes and after i made 1 mistake that ruined a piece, i started doing it properly
