I tried the 540 n hated it I brought my self a 201t n love the 540 seemed slow n unbalanced !

 

Well . Thats odd ! I would have thought it would be the other way round . Each to his own I suppose . Just out of interest Did you set the A/T on the 540 ?

no I didn't was a demo saw a friend brought in from a local dealer if we were all the same th world would be boring !!!!

Hi chaps,

I have a 201 in std form, nice and strong. My mate runs a 200 and his is much more instant where as you have to spin mine up a bit to get it past the initial slow uptake. Im just getting used to it but my question is how can I make mine a little more instant on power like a 200 without going out to buy a 200? "How do I tune it up?"

Drill some holes in the exhaust is what people have done with good results.....

For me just richening the low needle helped vastly, place a mark at its position now and move in small increments and test until the pick up is instant. Obviously on a warm saw, and leave it to idle between tests

 

I never needed to drill the exhaust to get satisfactory power. Although I would try it after the warren try was out! As modding the exhaust will void it.

You can advance the timing on a 201, that is supposed to help a bit. I have seen offset keys which you just change or you can file the key, some are cast to the flywheel. With the cylinder locked you need to turn flywheel anticlockwise by 5-7 mm on the outer edge. Hold it in position till the flywheel nut is tightened fully. This with a muff mod and tune should wake it right up
