Hi, i will be using a logasol for a colleague tomorrow, i was wondering what the ideal size bar to chainsaw ratio for milling wood.

Also if anyone can clarify for me, i am running a 24" bar on my husky 372, if i reduce size of bar to 18" does the chain run faster on the shorter bar or does it stay the same?

I think logasol do a special bar that runs a pico chain for a narrower kerf, run with a larger sprocket for more speed. For you if 18" is long enough to get through the timber then it will be faster.

In my limited milling experience I would say go with the biggest saw you have.

As for chain speed, it stays the same as the gearing doesn't change. If you want to increase the chain speed then change to a 8 tooth sprocket.

Speed doesn't change with bar length, only power, as a longer, heavier chain takes more to pull, sprocket size controls speed - bigger sprocket = more speed
