any good ideas?

got to take a big windblown willow down in a wood, and said i wanted to create some habitat while i did it. any ideas welcome.

woodchip on site, and in piles.

brash piles

leave stumps

log piles

monolith the trunk...

rather than remove the trees its damaged pollard them.

 

 

i remember someone doing clever things like cutting cavities into trunks for bats or something- any ideas?

Bore some slits into the trunk for bats. Make sure you bore uphill. Fracture prune any remanining branches and leave damaged trees if it's safe to do so.

Did a hole and chuck a load of rings in it and cover again. Stag beetle larvae like it a bit.

With yer batslots, bore the saw in then move the tip inside so as to make only the interior wider, not the entrance.
