Moisture Meter

Hi guys.

Just wonder what Moisture Meter people use? The best one too buy?

I work a Stihl one and also had a Morso badged one but they are the exact same as a lot of others out there with a different name on it.

They were only £20ish but so far seem to work pretty well.

I thought for that kind of money I would try them out before spending a lot of money on one.

I've got the Stihl one and dropped a Western Red Cedar the other day. As it hit the floor the lowest 4' section measured 18% top end and 21% base:confused1:

 

The Ash in the yard from March is also 20%, at £15 i guess you get what you pay for.

I've got a Stihl one. Fairly pricey I think (£40 odd) but seems to do a good job as far as I can tell.

 

Does get through batteries quite fast though...

I got a £10 off ebay, works perfectly, accurate and consistent against more expensive examples, including a pro-timeter!

Borrowed a moisture meter from my dad and a little confused as to the results.

 

take a bit of sycamore 4"x4" out the store, end grains 26-28%, side 21-22%.

take an axe and split down the middle 32%

 

what's the general reading most people go for?

 

done it for a few bits and it's all about the same.

 

it's only for firewood, so not loosing sleep over it

That should read: ** and being Stihl, I should have all the benefit of going in person to a main dealer, so that I can have a face to face handover once they have fully questioned me and made sure that the product is fit for my expectations, so ensuring that I am a satisfied customer and that the Stihl brand never becomes tarnished......

I don't know if it's accurate but it definitely helps me select direr logs for the woodburner so it fulfills its purpose for me.
