i should have taken a picture of it but i didnt its small round and black/purplish looks like an anemone from the sea and its 1 1/2 - 2 inches in diameter any pointers please

Again just guessing, but anemone like leads me to think squishy. Have a look at Bulgaria iquinans (black bulgar) and Exidia glandulosar (witches butter).
