Collecting leaves?

Hi,

Many thanks for the prompt reply.

We've considered the young fit Scouts and rakes option, but in todays protective society, it would probably be considered abuse.

We had been mowing with a Kubota F3560 with a 60" rear discharge out-front mower deck (less collector). I say had, because some light fingered low life have recently releived us of it, and a considerable quantity of associated groundcare equipment.

We are currently in the market for a replacement. If anyone out there knows of one, or something similar up for sale, let me know.

I've looked at the Kubota attachment with vacuum fan and tipping grass hopper, but apart from cost, it's just too big for us to store.

There is an izeki sxg 19 low tip 55ol collector on the bay for sensible money sorry can not do links and the better half is not here to do it for me.

you got a very good bargain new in the 1k mark to buy, and with wet stuff they block up all the water from sucking makes bag heavy so need to be strong man to lift them. trouble is our climate when leaves fall is its wet so leaves are wet and going into fan they block the in feed hose. same with the hand helds. i gave up just blow now into a heap and collect in a builders bag.

the only ones that work are the big commercial beasts with a 14inch plus suction hose they suck but still got to suck a bit at a time or they block up.

Good morning all,

Many thanks for the comments and suggestions.

Why collect the leaves? Well, there are several areas that get so many Oak leaves, that despite regular reseeding, we can't get the grass to take.

We've considered the problem of wet leaves sticking in suction tubes etc, but not having had any experience with vacuum units, we're not sure how much of an problem it would be. We have weekly work days, so regular collection would be possible.

I like the idea of using a blower to blow the leaves into piles/rows for collection. That's basically what we currently do with the humble rake, but with considerably less effort. Any suggestions which blower? Stihl seem to be the dominant models out there with commercial operators.

I have the same problem in France. The oak leaves just don't rot. I don't know about worms, they must have gone on strike or something.

I use a Countax tractor mower with a grass collector on the back. If I go over with the cutters running even when the leaves are very wet and stuck to the ground they get turned up so that if I leave them a while to dry a bit and then go over them again they all get swept up.

Maybe one of the scouts parents might have a tractor mower.
