Thanks very much for your input folks, it's very much valued.

 

Having talked to the client at length, they have decided to have the tree removed. We have been through the pros and cons and they have made the decision.

 

I can understand where they are coming from. Although they value the tree, it's a fine balance between cost (working at a tree that may still fail), peace of mind (wandering will it fail) and the fact that they are going to plant another tree in its place.

 

It's been a good learning curve for me, giving a lot more knowledge of causes, symptoms and consequences. For that I Thankyou!

Willows of an age last forever decayed to within an inch of their skins, as long as you can manage the mechanics the tree will do fine

Strictly come blowing..... Will made the bottom section of the stump into a planter for the client....decay clearly visible......horse shoe of sound wood was there, but minimal on the weakest point.....
