Whats with these big air filters? and covers? Not that I want to pimp my saw or anything. Got another dawg coming for mine but might get some use out of it before I start to mess about too much.

Modded muffler made by a guy in the U.S. using a stainless to mild steel welding technique . There is a formula for the optimum area against engine capacity which he has done a lot of work on . The motor has had a porting job done by spud and with the high top filter and modded muffler it really goes like a nutter !

 

Yeh, the surface area of the exhaust outlet(s) should be as big as possible, but NOT over 80% of the surface area of the exhaust port.

 

I was just being cheeky wondering if you could measure yours, but I guess it's not likely to be relevant as your pot will be a tad over standard! Lol!

 

Guess I'm going to have to get the micrometer and calculator out!

Not cheeky bud . Measured with my vernier they are 19.00mm I.D.

Ah, nice one! That does sound a bit big dueled up on a standard pot, but I'm going out now to have a check on the bit of pipe I've got!

I wouldn't worry about recoil damage, mines a few years old now, never had a spanner on it, and the sissy button has never been pressed!

 

I wish I had a sissy button for my old 181 especially when it"s cold.

Yeh, spent many a year wielding a 281 in the woods back in the '80's!

 

Funny how things have turned around, with my (dinky in comparison) 560xp, following 3 replacement starters, I'm advised to use the button every time or husky won't warranty it any more.

 

The days of the sissy button being there to make easier starting have gone, now it's there so you don't bust the saw!

 

Anyhow, for stubby feedback, lastnight I measured my bit of pipe and it's 15mm internal. Think it maybe worth a try duelled up on a standard pot. I've a spare can so guess the drill and welder will be coming out in the coming weeks.
