i think apps are great for phones, do you really need an app to tell you when the rope is foobarred. If you are looking at a rope, which is cut or has abrasions, and need to compare it, then bin it and get a new one. They havent created an app yet which can get the awkward tree down out of the sky and onto the ground, cut it up and process it. I hoped that would be in IOS7.0, sadly not, not even take a photo and then let it do it's magic.
