One for the techs I think! but can anyone suggest something for cleaning carbs I don't mean the usual crap that comes off with normal cleaner, I'm talking about the hard limescaly rubbish that builds up on the older machines particularly the internals as you can see in the pic?

Ultrasound cleaner does the trick, if not cleaner left on and a tooth brush, or strip the carb removing all parts and use non caustic cleaner. plus an air line turned down a bit to blast it out.

Gonna need to get me an ultrasonic cleaner! Carbs fully stripped now, gotta order the usual gubbings but the carb body just looks rough! So Ill give that a go :) ta much

Nope....... The whole body is a tad crusty tbh it ran fine yesterday with some fresh fuel but today nothing! So pulled the carb and the diaphragm had turned to jam! Kinda expected it tbh it is nearly 50 years old

A decent heated ultrasonic cleaner will shift that, I use a special carb cleaner and de-ionised water. Other than that, carb cleaner may work.

A good soak in white spirit may help if an ultrasonic cleaner isn't available.

Fingers crossed then :) everything else is pristine and It came with a brand new spare clutch so it's just this that needs some attention, recommendations on the carb kit? Found plenty from the states but no uk supplier yet

Rowena Motors, don't be put off by the website, the guys know their business and are very good - they sell Zama, Walbro and Tillson kits at around 1/3rd cheaper than the OEM kits and the kits are the carb manufactures kits.
