Hi guys I'm in the process of felling a nice piece of oak does anyone know much about kiln drying I'd like to make a fire surround and mantle from it and being impatient would like to process it ASAP.

Does anyone know where I might be able to dry it for me in surrey?

Always recommended to air dry oak well before kilning. Impatience will lead to a large percentage of loss.

Also still a little warm for milling oak. A few more weeks and it should be cooler.

It's very important to dry the wood well before doing anything out of it. If you leave too much wet - it will be twisted afterwords, if you over dry it -it will crack all over. In the upper comments there is a good peace of advice - just follow it. Good luck! Show us what you'll get!
