Does appear similar, and as Tony says, host is bang on.

Sited on trunks and undersides of branches on both dead and live wood.

 

Jordan has it listed as P. pomaceus, and goes on to give P. ignarius as having the synonym as Fomes igniarius :confused1:

 

 

Will consult & widen the scope at the office on the morrow :001_smile:

Mmmmm......does seem characteristic of Phellinus..Oh, sorry, you said that. TBH, I have never seen Phellinus tuberculosis in person but this is looking good from reference material to hand.....the striking colors are well, striking....! look at the way they stack up...and compare with fomes for yourself ( plus host and situ fits...)http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=fomes+fomentarius&btnG=Google+Search&meta=
