Great piece work & presentation Mat :thumbup1:

Severe, but looked a good call on the reduction.

Was it a pollard or maiden?

Any of the large sections staying on site?

what species of bat were in residence

.

Hi David. I don't know what species of bats. I was working for a consultant who dealt with the environmental side of the job. Bats all in the main stem, but timber is staying beside tree for some time incase any critters were in pieces we removed.

It was an old pollard. I have reduced it a couple of times and my predecessor has been working on it for 15 years. We took the decision to take it down hard as it was near collapse and it would have been a shame to loose the tree. Still I think we took less than 50% of the foliage volume off. It's also right in the middle of the beautiful days festival site.

All the campers will be cursing you if it sunny and you've taken away half there shade haha! I went to 2000 trees festival last week and all there was for shade was one oak tree everyone huddled around

Good work though I have some crane vids and pics from a few of our jobs I need to edit and put up! Which go pro do you have?

lucky tree to have an owner willing to take on consultation & the long term management of it & nice for you to be involved in the return process.

Any specific fungi associated ?

Looks an interesting site, any other heritage trees there?

Yes it's a nice place to work with lots of big and veteran trees. There was ganoderma brackets on the tree, didn't see any ustulina.

Should have added that this was the third and final phase of a phased reduction. We removed approx 15 tons of material and about 12m from the tree. I'd estimate it was still a bit less than 50% of the overall leaf area. I think without the works, the whole tree would have collapsed in the near future

Thanks to everyone else for the positive feedback. I enjoyed the job and felt we did the right thing, but I was expecting some armchair critics
