I would say a prusik is safer than a vt as with every body thrust you slide the knot up and are locked off every time you ascend whereas a vt or any sort hitch used with a self tending pulley has the potential for you to pull lots of slack into the system if you don't tend it regularly but a vt (I think) is a much more efficient way of climbing

If only use the vt for a side strop. Don't feel safe climbing on it, has a tendency to slip. Distel is better than the vt.

 

How many wraps and twists do you use on a vt? I use 4w an 3t and doesn't slip for me also depends on your climbing line an cord choice, some work better than others
