Eucalyptus gunni

Eucs are known to split and the tension and compression in the older larger ones can be pretty crazy , I got the 66 stuck once when blocking down a stem , halfway through the cut and the bar pinched , had to release some fibers on the other side and it came out no worries. Surprised the Aussie lads haven't jumped on this one , eucs are there bread and butter

And the Eucalyptus is one for splitting, hence the choice of cut. The original query was Eucalyptus characteristics not a microscopic assassination of the felling cut ... :wtf:

I simply pointed out that it does not provide control. It does however help to prevent splitting with free grained species such as euc, ash, willow etc with head leaners.

Euc hinges well, but does have a tendancy to split if you put too much load on the hinge wood.
