Awesome table, was it mostly chainsaw work?

Thanks, was my first ever project.

I used a Husky 350 with a carving bar I got from the us to start with. Sanded, wasn't great. Last year I used an Arbortech (the chainsaw one and the turbo plane), then planed the top with my Festool and sanded with a Rotex 150 up to 800 grit. Looks a bit better but I am now thinking I might do something to the legs. In a few years that will probably be the size of a coaster!:001_huh:

Amazingly there has been no splits. The top has some small radial cracks, but I can fill those in with wax filler I guess.

Ok. To start with keep it simple. Learn how to use basic tools and cut straight etc. First project I did with beginners in courses was a set of shelf brackets(see pic). This teaches you to cut square and straight lines, follow curves and is excellent for building confidence. Essentially two bits of wood glued and screwed together. Very easy, but still perfectly functional if you go wrong. Project no.2 to follow

Ah makes sense really, keep it small and simple not to overwhelm myself, not yet anyway :)

What's the best wood to work with as a beginner you think?
