Well worth viewing on Iplayer for anyone who missed the original transmission. The items about the current research into finding resistant specimens was very interesting and a cause for optimism. I just hope they can get chalara-resistant trees commercially available before all of the 100 million or so existing trees have died.

I have been like that since last year , look at everything up close , it was confirmed not to far from me but in a nursery and all of a sudden the charlara front has gone quiet , the spores will be growing this time of year and we should be taking steps to stunt the spread

Don't know if there has been any previous discussion about this. When Dutch Elm struck I seem to remember Biological controls dictated felling and local burning to stem the spread. If this is to be mirrored with Ash dieback on the scale being predicted it seems like there is a potential to destroy a huge natural resource. I understand the need to slow the spread but wonder what could be done ,if anything ,to both harvest and protect the remaining healthy Ash. The computer modelling shown on Countryfile predicted a pretty catastrophic spread over the next few years .
