Hi could anybody tell me why a tillotson hs carb has a hole in the top and bottom cover?Why would petrol leek out of the top hole [would it do this if it was flooding]?Thanks

I think its possibly that your metering arm is set incorrectly allowing too much fuel into the carb . Someone with a better knowledge will be along shortly though .

They are breathing holes and if leaking fuel, will have a leaking diaphragm or pumping membrane underneath!

Possibly like this one I have just removed from a TK carb this morning.

Hi leaking from top hole.Both of what spud mentioned looked ok with no rips.Bought a repair kit but not fitted yet.Sprayed carb cleaner through all holes etc.Didnt see any spray coming from one of holes behind choke bit.Is there any solvent u can soak carb in.Dont no how to unblock the other bit.Thanks

Do are you saying that you have removed the H&L screws and sprayed carb cleaner down them?

 

If so you should get a stream from the holes just under the throttle valve spraying in to the L screw and a jet out of the brass check valve just behind the choke spraying in to the H screw hole!

Hi yes just as u described spud but could only see it spraying out of 1 place .Is there any other way of clearing it?Tried with compressed air as well.Thanks

I use a heated ultrasonic cleaner with specific carb cleaner, an hour in that generally cleans carbs pretty thoroughly!
