So after years of thinking my 578 had a IH D239 engine it hasn't; rather it has a D246 from the 84 Hydro Unit.

Weren't they about 70hp, and the 678 about 90hp?

 

How do manage to source parts?

It really is confusing!

 

The 678 had a turbo'd IH DT239 3.9L producing 62kW@2400rpm and 285 Nm torque at 1600rpm thus 83 horsepower. Compression ratio 12:1

says it produces 56kW thus 75 horsepower!

 

I'm guessing the atmo D239s and D246s came in various power outputs. The Bruunett 578 had the skid unit from the 84 hydro but that link throws doubt on it...

Parts sorry; JASPW has a few, not needed any others!

 

If I had nothing better to do I'd do a nut and bolt restoration but can't see that ever happening; heater and cab comfort parts probably a non starter. IH parts dead easy. Base unit transmission - clock ticking no doubt; have to have them made I guess.

Apparently so but I have had no issues with mine with the exception of bogie gear repairs from the ol failed bearing; I check those bearings very regularly.

Fair play to you for keeping the old girl going, and still able to do a days work, the beauty of being a owner driver!!,, most new machines are hammered in their early life by the drivers that bragg about putting a thousand tonne a week on roadside that ends up sitting there for months drying out.,

My 578 has a dt239 engine with the turbo removed.
