Hi Guys

 

I know that if these are bad ideas someone will let me know!!

 

1. Swap out the gold rings for 12mm pear maillons, I just don't link the rings with their sticky out plastic bits, surly the maillons have got to be better, also easy to swap out different bridges.

 

Which brings me on to point number two.....

 

2. Clip a DMM bat rigging plate directly to the rings (or maillons), yes you lose the ability to have your device of preference slide about but you do get 3, 5 or 7 reliably spaced clip-ins?

 

 

I'm sure this wont be everyone's cup of tea, but from a safety point of view is this a bad idea.

If you replace the system that the manufacturer put in then if there is a failure will ins etc pay out? Would it be seen as unsafe mods. Or not to manufacturers spec?

 

I don't know but just putting the thought out there.

 

I like the rings on mine and I have added a metal cable that I had made between the rings that is slightly longer than the bridge and acts as an emergency backup. I didn't like the bridge but it is staying on.

Good point, I am only doing this for recreation so don't have insurance, unless its something petzl pay out if their gear fails?

 

I'm happy enough changing things so long as they are at least as strong, I wouldn't go un picking stitching or anything, but I have to trust my splicing and knot tying so I trust a change of connector so long as its strong enough!

Which size bat plate are you going to use? Looks like it could be quite a bulky setup

I'm thinking of the medium one, they are a bit smaller than they look in the pics, I think it will workout lower than the standard bridge, just!

I think when you go replacing crucial elements on a harness you are asking for trouble.Rigging plates and steel connectors sound bad.I don't really see what your trying to achieve with this setup,looks bulky and very unconventional.Yes i know everyone has their preference for different setup's but you have said you don't have much experience climbing and with that you should be keeping it basic as possible and once you have gained some experience seen other people setup's then you can start building something from experience.This setup that you have will not be functional in everyday tree work,maybe just for access fine,but moving about in tight crotches,ivy and epi growth i think you will struggle.

Is there a safety concern though with the maillons and the rigging plate, in my mind every component it of sufficient strength and will be loaded correctly.

 

Why were you concerned with the connectors being steel?
