I might be totally wrong but I had similar problems with mine and it was the tank vent, the saw got really hot before dying then would not start for twenty mins or so, took the two screws out of the vent cleaned them reassembled and its been fine ever since

Good point - when the saw is playing up, tilt it in its side, loosen the fuel cap and start it up and see if it revs out and idles OK, if it does then it is a blocked fuel tank vent.

General symptoms are the top end goes loopy at some time after running, then it won't rev out and may idle fine or die depending on how blocked it is.

Basically the fuel pumping area of the saw (Carb/Impulse) is pulling against a vacuum in the fuel tank caused by the vent failing to let air in to replace the fuel taken out by the saw running.

That sounds like the text book version of what I wrote in my post just before this one. I would think Rich knew what he meant from experience!

Yes I did. But by the sounds of the op and asking what a impulse line was I was guessing that he wasn't mechanically minded to saws. So its easier to just say by the crank than to fill a post with lots of tech info that can confuse a person.

Albeit its not that confusing but to a non minded person it is. Short and sweet. If they wanted to know more about impulse lines then they can ask:thumbup:

Plus by treequip typing it out I didn't have to. Lazy I am...
