You gotta start somewhere. I am after a blower and long reach hedge trimmers. Even second hand stihl is out of my price range so I think I am going to have to start off with tanaka and hopefully by time it is dead I can afford echo or husky (not too keen on chinese stihl)

 

 

they are made in Japan, but then, so is almost everything nowadays, I picked up this, mainly for the strimmer and slightly bigger engine, It surprised me on the quality of it, it actually is well put together,

Imported un branded stuff is like marmite, you either love it, or hate it.

no different over on shooting forums, you'll have those wanting to lay out big money on "silver pigeon/beretta shotguns" and those who want cheap as chips escort shotguns, they are both tools that do a job, some look on it as shotgun snobbery, others think a more expensive gun will make them shoot better, I by the way own an escort, it does the job no different.

 

I can understand a business charging money could not really turn up at a job and start unloading import tools, it would probably not instill confidence with the customer, but for those of us who are working our own land, I don't see any problems with them, I also don't understand why those that dont like them/own them or want to use them, jump straight on the bandwagon and try to pick fault with them, what does it matter to them, or is it reverting back to my shotgun theory,

I suppose its a bit like playground bullying, those that wear the latest NIKE trainers think they are more "special" than the kid in primark trainers,

 

as for spares and repairs, they are readily available, if you buy from the right supplier, or being cheap as chips, simply buy another, they may be more hands on, but is that a bad thing??

one of our strimmers stopped working last week, 1/2 an hour stripping and cleaning the carb and its up and running again, would someone owning a £200 plus machine even try that, or would they think, sod it, take it back/send it back for repairs, costing them more time and money with a motor out of action for how many days?

Just stumbled on this thread, David makes some good points, I wouldn't buy one but when I buy DIY tools like drills etc I always go cheap as I know when I finish the job it will sit around for god knows how long. Real builders laugh at my cheap crappy tools.

But when they bring me their rubbish saws for sharpening the roles are reversed, they just shrug and say"done me well for 3 years".

Same thing I 'spose.

Fact, It is NOT the same as a Stihl FS90

Fact, The parts are not interchangeable

Fact, It is cheap and will work fine until it does'nt.

Fact, If someone brings one into me for repair I decline to take it on.

here you go david_chainsaw, I've just bought 2 of these from "the range" at £5.99 each, much better than the one supplied as it has the quick release on it, plus a padded shoulder bit.
