Chainsaw bar

The chain came off of the bar when revving upto speed, the chain catcher has been damaged and i was wondering if i should change it or put the curve back into it, I have a spare broken chainsaw that I can take the catcher of and it might fit on the damaged piece.

Also I think the cause of the chain coming of is that the bar has been pinched and when running the chain around the bar it will not fit and will clog up. So i was thinking of wiggling a screwdriver in there to widen the grove will this work or is there a better way.

I wasnt running the chainsaw at the time so I am not sure of the circumstances of why it came off.

Thanks

Jack

You can un pinch the bar in the way you describe . Make sure the bar rails are not worn down or uneven dress off any burs and clean out the groove . Is the nose sprocket ok ? If all; this is done it should still be usable .

Everything else is fine its just about 2 inches that have been pinched, also what lubricant should i use on the sprocket, bar oil or mechanical grease, and what is the best way to apply it?

Thanks

Jack

Well there should be a small hole on the side of the tip ( sometimes both sides ) which will accept a bar tip grease gun ( a point type nozzle ) but to be honest I find it best not to grease them , assuming its rotating freely to start with . Theory is the grease attracts crud which can jam/wear it out quicker . Personal thing really . Some people do and some don't.
