ms 180 chain oil problem?

Hi all, i have a ms 180 that does'nt seem to be oiling the chain as much as it should, sometime theres nothing at all, i removed the bar and the clutch drum to check the drive was located right, this all seems fine, also when a small amount of oil does appear there seems to be a lot of air in it? Can anybody point me were i need to be checking next.Thanks in advance ewdripper:thumbup:

Check the worm drive under the clutch likely to be that. If not blow the pipes out.

If there is air in the oil when coming out then a pipe has a hole in it. Remove the oiler and open the tank remove the oiler pipes from tank to pump and check for holes.

 

Also from pump to oiler hole.

 

It's the "pencil" looking pump so needs the hand removed and a bolt used to withdraw it from the saw.

 

Have you tried adjusting the pump up at all?

Typical of these, pump is worn. About £25 for a new stihl one or £8 for a cheap wear out in 2 months copy.

If it has air bubbles it's likely to be the pipe. I say the pipe, not a pipe as there is only one:

Thanks for the replies guys, to remove this pipe does it have to come out through the tank then??, if i were to remove the worm drive can i see the pump end of the pipe and remove it then pull it through the tank:confused1:

Easiest way is to remove the pump, then the handle then the flywheel then pull the oil tank out. The pipe will come with the tank after removing the pump.

 

It's the easiest way or you will struggle.

To be honest its easy enough to fit a pipe, just a few minutes work, push it into the tank, grab it with a pair of thin, long nose pliers and pull it, whilst easing the flange grommet into place with a blunted screwdriver.

Seems there's more than one easiest way...

 

I'd pull off the oil filter (through tank lid)

Take off the anti-vibe rubber by the bar-mount.

Put a big screwdriver under the handle and bend it out the way enough to pull the pipe off the pump and out of the tank.

 

Reverse to refit.

Quite right Rover, I forgot to mention access. Just had tunnel vision on replacing the pipe.
