Think it was a lump of ash, I cut it off an old stump out the back of the house with a husqvarna 136. Tried to cut through it with this saw and thats when I got a bit of smoke off it. But the oil on the floor got me thinking there might be something a miss somewhere.

No the tensioner is on the main body side, the bar doesn't have a sprocket in the end and it looks like it may have opened up a bit at the end, guessing that would pull the chain into the nose a bit too much when tensioning causing it to lock up.

If its got the chain pitch stamped on the bar ( which it has , 3/8 ) then it should have a nose sprocket ! You say its opened up a bit . My guesses would be the sprocket has disintegrated and is ling gone . If it was meant to be a hard nosed bar it would not have the chain pitch stamped on it . It would run any chain of the right gauge ( .058 in you case ) Sooo me thinks you need a new nose sprocket or better still a new bar !

New bar and new chain.

The drive links have scoring from the bar groove on them. New should remove the problems with the chain. And then it will become apparent f there is anything wrong with the oiler or not. Ensure you get a sprocket nose bar as the solid nose bars are a PITA. And get a bar grease gun if you get an Oregon one.

Had a big box of new stuff turn up today, a new bar and chain being in there. Popped them on the saw after giving it a good clean, adjusted it up and ran it for a bit, re-tensioned and so far it all seems to be working really well. No oil all over the floor and plenty on the chain. Will put it through its paces on friday, got a big willow to cut up. Two bits have fallen backwards and two bits have fallen in the drink! so could end up going for a swim. Thanks for all the advice.
