If it was the valves it wouldnt turn over with the plugs out either! Check that the plugs are not too long a reach!

If the rocker post has come undone (I have had this happen), then the valve is permanently closed. This would not allow exhaust gas to escape and could make it difficult to turn over.

 

With the plug out it would turn over easy.

I understand where you are coming from but this is happening on 3/4 of a turn!!!

Might depend where it starts rotating I suppose, effectively there would be two compression strokes instead of one on that cylinder during the 4 stroke cycle. That could possibly cause the piston to bounce back off the first compression. Maybe?

 

Also the OP says it will turn over all the way by hand. That could be because he is bleeding compression slowly past the rings. maybe?

I think you might be right with the valve. If you take the right spark plug out it will turn over. It's just the right cylinder stoping it. It doesn't take much force to move it past that point. On 1 or 2 occasions it has done 1 3/4 of a turn but still stops at that point.

If the exhaust valve is not opening and the pressure is not being released you wouldnt be able to turn it over by hand, remove the spark plug and the pressure ecsapes through the spark plug hole so it can be turned over by hand.

It sounds like the decision has already been made by a lot of poeple, it IS the valves and couldn't possibly be anything else!

I guess we are just going to have to wait until next week, when the main man gets another look, heres hoping its an easy fix!

Is the woodruff key the cog on the starter motor.
