Haha mines not as economical as yours andy, went through about 20 litres in 8hrs so that's 2.5l per hour, not bad considering its a 24hp 5" chipper and good in comparison by the sounds of it but nothing like your under a litre an hour :(

That aint running right; mine used half that; half the jerry can for a days constant chipping. Check it aint running on one as they are prone to and perfect that anvil gap... :001_smile:

Boiler goes off, Plumber turns up, fiddles a fiddle and 20min later presents you with a £50+ bill...:confused1:

Puts EVERTHING into perspective...

Ty

I am 60% less expensive and 100% more honest than a plumber...:001_rolleyes:

Everyone knows you can never get a plumber for love nor money when you need one, hardly a comparison, laws of supply and demand.

I can hire a chipper far far cheaper than the figures quoted, and that's for a range of Schliesings, not TWs. I accept this is a double edged sword, if someone can hire in a machine cheaply, they're not going to pay a high rate for an owner/machine to come in, but do it themselves.

Andy, you're not to far from me how much do you charge to hire your Schliesing on a day or week hire?

I'm in the process of selling my 8 year old TW150 and 4 year old Schliesing 440zx with a view to either buying brand new machines. This thread has made me consider simply hiring the machines or even hiring a man and chipper at the rates quoted (if i can find someone local & reliable) rather than tie up £40k in capital outlay, service, replace etc.

Our local hire shop hires out a professional Timberwolf towable chipper for around £180 per day. You have to collect, return and provide fuel so you price is way too cheap if you're going to turn up at site with your own chipper provide labour, fuel for machine as well as travel costs plus wear & tear on your machine and that can run into hundreds per year - you should be looking at £300-350 minimum.

Just been on site clearance some 50 miles from base with a 12" machine and charged £300.00 p/day. With fuel for tow vehicle, fuel for chipper & site owners trying to do three days work in 2 days....I should have stayed at home!

wear & tear on machine is not worth it. Very much thinking that my 'own use' in the future, on priced jobs I just get finished quicker, fuel limited to spurts of use, limited abuse..... leave 'renting' out to the hire companies!

Totally agree Steve. I don't hire my machines out cos people just abuse them by throwing any old crap in there last sweepings from a job which nine times out of ten contains stones and **** in it.

I had a guy hire us in to clear brash and it was a nightmare real bird best with barbed wire, old pallets iron reinforcing rods. He wanted it all done in a day - that was the one and only time I've taken on a job like that now we cut, we chip otherwise not interested. Plenty of other mugs out there willing to do it for silly money.
