Hi Guys

Have got a few nice pieces of ash and was wondering if this would be ok to make spoons out of?

Cheers

Hi mate, it's very good for the job.....non toxic and especially when green/ freshly cut it carves very well....less so when it has seasoned for a long time when it can be hard. just watch it when carving green that it doesn't dry too fast in case it splits.

I prefer ash over other woods provided it's from a young or medium aged tree.

Everyone has their favourite wood in the carving world.!

Nice when green. Go easy with it though - can soon tear apart if you knock it about too much when roughing out. Dry it slowly too, or it will crack (I found wrapped in a plastic bag and keep turning the bag inside out to let out the water is the best way - you can monitor how they're doing. Do a few at once too, to make it worth while):thumbup1:

Ash is fine for spoons, as long as you remove the pith once split it shouldn't crack or split, get some pics up when your done.:thumbup1:
