Hi gents i have just received my new winch from cyclone winches of north Yorkshire.

Its a petrol driven capstan for the extraction courses I am going to be running.

Has anybody got one of these yet.

They are a bit more robust then the pro climber winch and a little cheaper.

I was wondering how many are out there I the arb community.

Also any problems.

yep I've got the same winch. only used it a couple of times. i don't find it easy to use this type of winch, hard to watch the winch, rope on capstan, and load all at the same time. knackered a rope on it. im sure you would get used to it though

Im looking at a petrol capstan at the mo.

Looking at pcw5000 but would interested to hear what else is out there and whats best.

It sounds like the pcw5000 is the dogs doodaas.

Any feed back would be great.

The winch i have has a one ton straight pull and seams a bit more robust also is housed in a cradle to protect engine parts.

I have used the pro climber winch and found it good but a little wobbly to use and was a bit nervous of it falling over and damaging bits of casing.

That is why i looked at cyclone it looks as if it will last in the hands of trainees.

Also billy at cyclone is very help full.

So far its doing well i use it for training courses so the cradle protects the casing and exhaust it can be a bit fast but set on slow means it does not rush the man controlling the load.

I tried another type that a friend has and it seamed a little unstable and i don't think it would take the miss use you get with trainees.

Plus billy at cyclone is a very helpful bloke

Capstan winches are the easiest thing to use.

The hardest part is trying not to get riding turns and knowing how to deal with them. Can really ruin your day if they go wrong.
