Hi,

As far as I know there is no official legislation. National Grid would like you to to be several meters away from any gas line, and on top of drainage is obviously best avoided. If you can avoid do - if you have the choice and space. If not; cat, dig safely and plant if you can get a large enough hole.

Most of the trees on the highway in towns and cities are in the footway or on verges sharing its root space with all the services there are, with very little problem.

The main reson to move the trees for me would be to reduce the likelihood of men with diggers and the like affecting the trees in the future.

Helooooooo

here you go gas

National Grid: Trees and vegetation near gas pipelines

this is because of anode protection more than direct disturbance , got my ass chewed off many years ago when i planted a load of maluc over a gas main i did not know was there, now the TO gets his ass chewed off over the fruit dispersal.....LOL

if there are no overhead lines bit pointless but any closer than 9m to <1000v or 15>1000v. then seek advise from local power company.

as for the underground stuff ill look in my linesman maual and see what i can find

cheers
