whats the best for pulling out timber tractor or crawler with winch

theres no road work, all in woods on tracks i whas thinking about 90 to 100 hp

or what about tractor and trailer with grab ,it is fairly steep so well need 4 wheel drive

what sort of price for a good crawler or tractor

You would probably get a way with a smaller crawler than tractor each has it's for's and againsts I will leave that for others to coment on.

There was an article in forestry journal about a guy using a crawler/loader/winch set up. i think it was Scandinavian? army surplus. worked well for him.

A crawler with a winch can not be beaten, they can turn on the spot which make alining the pull direction a doddle. Tracks also have a very light footprint, therefore mimimum ground distrubance. They are very stable as they have a low centre of gravity.

For everthing forestry related they are a bag of poo.
