chain tension on husky 365

i have an old husky 365. i keep replacing the chain tensioning bolts/screw, as they keep bending.

i am having problems tensioning the chain- goes slack then tight and i think i must be overtightening to compensate.

the clutch drum has a bit of play. i replaced sprocket not too long ago.

think may be roller bearings need replacing?

any ideas before i dismantle it?

thanks

It could be the worn sprocket has stretched the chain but it is also possible the nose sprocket on your bar has worn or the bearing is a bit shot, the sprocket bearing is worn and also possible the crank may have been very slightly bent!

Try another bar and chain, if that doesn't cure it, try a new sprocket bearing - the sprocket shouldn't have a lot of wobble in it - you can check the crank is strait with a vernia using the bar stud as a datum!

You don't write whether you've been running the saw previously without trouble, but it could be a badly worn nose sprocket, or a sprocket/nose-sprocket that does not match the chain pitch (3/8", .325), causing the chain drive links to "ride high" on the sprocket at times.

Also: Have you tried running with a new (or different) chain? Same issue? This way, you can rule out/in the chain as being the cause of the trouble. A badly stretched chain (possibly due to being run without oil) will effectively make it not match the sprocket pitch.
