Bandit 65 XP

No, the usa built 6" machines are nothing like the uk models. Makes you wonder, with the increased weight and shared components with the bigger machines, why you would want to buy a 6 inch over a 9-12 inch american machine.

I'd rather go a little bigger and have a proper chipper.

Since they dont have the ridiculous towing laws we have, they are not interested in building a sub 750 kg machine.

I havent got a 65xl mate I just assumed they were around the 750-850kg mark like the vermeer, greenmech, timberwolf etc 6" machines, especially with the towing restrictions on license's etc.

Last time I weighted a Vermeer 6" it came in just over the 1000kg:w00t: and that was without the spare wheel and tyre. I think a lot of tree company will be suprised to find just how heavy some chippers are. The timberwolfs how ever are good at the weight and are normaly correct on their spec sheets and ID plates on the machine.

Anybody ever owned, used or bought one of these. I am humouring the idea at the moment of investing in one but at 14k + vat they are going to have to be worth it. I know the XL had dead wood issues also, but the dealers at the APF think they have sorted it. Anyway anyone views on this chipper would be great.

I know there are cheaper models out there from say timberwolf but are Bandit building them better or quite the opposite?

Just bought a brand new one 6 months ago and it is brilliant. It is small enough to get down those pokey driveways, but big enough to handle the bigger jobs. I have used vermeer 6 inchs and the bandit is way better. The double rollers will crush branches that some chippers cant handle and it will take a true 6" branch rather than 4" like the rest of them. My one has the vangaurd 35hp motor and the dual rollers which may cost you more, but it usually just depends what the dealer has in stock. I used to hire a 9 inch greenmech and i reckon my bandit is'nt far behind. Feeds in a bit slower takes almost as big a branch, cost $20,000 less.

Er, please tell me of ONE 6" chipper that will only take a 4" branch??:confused1: I've never seen one.

Most 6" chippers are marketed as such because they have a 6" in-feed. Try putting a 6" branch with brush on it through and it wont fit. All i'm saying is the Bandit will take a 6" branch with brush way more comfortably than other chippers. you might be able to get 6" of wood through the in-feed but you cant tell me it wont get stuck on every little stub or branch on the way through. Therefore its really only a 4" chipper as you need to leave a couple of inches gap for the brush.

  • 2 weeks later...

I was a bit worried on the weight issue myself (especially after having all the issues with towing bigger kit and licenses) so i did the google thing and found this: http://www.ntta.co.uk/law/

I've since checked with the guys at Global Recycling and all their kit complies with EU regs - its worth a phone call to double check though. There seem to be loads of stories about 4x4's and vans being stopped while towing so can't afford to get it wrong.

Cheers
