Found these Clathrus archeri today. At Colchester zoo, but a the opposite end to last year. Had to open one just to be sure of ID, again in mulch under bamboo...

After a quick second opinion on remains of bracket on oak. Looks to me to be inonotus dryadeus. Esp due to nature of decay present on roots of one tree in particular. Thoughts welcome.

are the dessicated remains hard or soft Owen?

 

If hard, I would imagine they are I. dryadeus, based on the look & the location
