but the fungi doesn't have it's Latin name printed on it :001_smile:

I think you can get away with english for a lot of the tree fungi to be honest.

But if you need / want to remember the botanical name, the best way IMO, find out what they mean and how they relate to the plant. With that one, I think, blood and hepatitus. Nice. :001_smile:

Some massive Boletes, here under an Oak.

Not sure which species exactly, possibly Boletus purpureus.

Don't think they're B. Satanas = Lethal :scared1:

& the last shot is another Podoscypha multizonata, here on Oak also.

Think this one makes it 4 or 5 individual sightings of this relatively rare fungi for me so far this year.

Whahahey :001_smile:

Cheers OS.

Go for it, I do it all the time. :001_smile:

You can always tell the owners that your doing them a service by trying to Id a potentially dodgy Fung :001_smile:

Gonna raid a front garden and cut a wedge out to satisfy my curiosity on a bracket on a Chesy tommorow.

Reckon it's Rigidiporous, stay tuned :sneaky2:

A day in Fungi.......

First thing this morning

Podocypha multizonatas and a trinity of Ganos, all on the same Beech.

First shot.

Ganos are;

G. pfeifferii - tiny bracket at base of first butress crease at right on second picture.

G. applanatum - with bright white margin in centre of shot

G. resinaceum - on Lhs of shot (although this may be G. lucidum, but what looks like a stalk actualy comes out of the butress and not the ground)

Next set, this afternoon,

are Ganoderma applanatums, Fuglio septica and Hypholoma fasciculare on stumps and fallen decaying trunks within an English Heritage SSSI.

Last two shots are the same G. australe on a deteriorating Monkey puzzle, with a proud six year old finding his peddles for the first time in the local park this evening :proud::proud:
