And this was in the middle of a field with no trees?.....must have been a stump somewhere?

I saw one today but it must be too obvious for you guys……. Inonotus hispidus? By the way it is the first one I have found in South Wales. Do you have any info on where hispidus is found in the UK?

So, david, what do you make of this one? not in my books but ive seen it twice this week on two different sites?

 

both on ash, finely pored, rubbery/leathery feel, light brown to begin with turning dark brown with redwine tints.
