Found this on a wound of a Cedar tree today.....

Phaeolus schweinitzii I do believe, I mistook it for Inonotus on the Tree Life tech cert training day.

After chasing up host, and upon consultation with my minion, Ischnoderma benzoinum has been proffered as a good possibility.

Ischnoderma benzoinum (Wahlenb.) P. Karst., 1881 (Benzoin Bracket)

Phaeolus can be upon the stem on wounds, but is most commonly on the ground.
