That's a mightily impressive bracket.

 

Supprised it's not been kicked off.

Is it in an enclosure Sean?

 

Is that also a bracket at the base of the Tree on the rhs in picture 2 ?

 

 

 

Although here on Beech & a little smaller, yours and this one are very similar in size and form.

No its not in an enclosure David. This tree is riddled with the stuff. It is on a footpath and horse track. It is now down for a 15% crown reduction on the new safety list (bloody safety lists...its a wild park.....put a huge disclaimer up at the entrance gates!)

Have you noticed how the surface on your one david is the couloration of the host beech as is my one on the hornbeam!
