Genus with high available sugar content.

Boosts the roots..

Could it also be that rosaceous mulch is fungistatic? or is that the reason?

Is all rosaceous much fungistatic? I've not heard that before. Do you have any reference to this quality, I'd be curious as to how it affects the rotting of it.

I'd imagine if it is fungistatic it will inhibit beneficial mycorhiza as much as pathetic fungi; in effect a stand off until the fungistatic compounds have broken down.

Clearly not relevant to the OP but depending on soil type or compaction, some trees appear to be able to tolerate up to 200mm of fill over the root system.

Does the dust up on those top shelves in your library not play havoc with your lungs?

FAbulous, Mr HCR. Isn't it wonderfoul that when there is a question to be answered someone somewhere has done all the right experiments and someone somewhere else has spotted it and can produce a copy of the results for Arbtalkers at the drop of a hat!
