All the engine parts should be ok.

If the plastic has melted behind the clutch and made a hole into where the oil pump sits, then when you replace the damaged parts and start her up oil will be pumped through the hole and onto the clutch making the saw unuseable, weve tried repairing them but to no avail. The only way was to get a new engine case. New part plus labour makes older saws not worth doing, seen as yours is nearly new may make it viable.

Gone back to supplier for post mortem. Will report back. Would you have expected the needle roller to collapse as it has because of leaving brake on. The reason I ask the chain needed constant adjustment before all this happened???

They collapse if they're cooked, constant chain adjustment is oil related

I really would recommend buying as many of the replacement parts off eBay as possible, as I recon you might be in for a little shock when you get the repair quote

I don't understand! Surely the chainsaw shouldn't melt on tickover? I'm assuming you mean on idle, or do you mean half throttle when you start the saw.

I leave mine on idle with chain break on and had no problems.

No real conclusions, but has been repaired.Believe the needle bearing collapsed during usage?? Anyway its working and was good to get it back. Have started to reduce the pile of wood in my garden, while my wife Sharon uses the Ryobi wood splitter!!! :001_smile:
