rock harness

just wandering if anyone knows of any problem in using a rock climbing harness up a tree. I am just starting to learn to climb and really want a harness so i can practice in my own time but dont want the expensive of buying an arb harness as i may not use it very much if ever as i am scared of heights.

No problem with using a rock climbing harness up a tree. In fact recreational tree climbers use them all the time. You will not get the full range of motion that a working harness with a sliding 'D' and side attachments gives you. Neither will you be able to pole climb with a flip line. But for just getting tree climbing practice in its perfectly OK.

A rock harness doesn't have the side d`s on it but I`m sure it`s okay to climb about a bit in.

Hello mate, I work as a groundie and am progressing into tree climbing using an alpine bod harness.

 

great harness for forty quid! but! I recommend you shell out an extra tenner and get the padded one as I spent four hours hanging off the top of a leylandii in mine and I was bloody pleased to get down!

 

All the crabs and lines all anchor at the same point which can become very frustrating when crabs get pinched up, keep the ends of your fliplines and/or climbing lines on one side and the other respectively, avoid cross anchoring them and this wont be a problem.
