Love your owls and love the roadblock !! I'm curious ... are you practising 30 minute carvings in order to enter competitions and shows or do you already enter them ?? Wisewood posted in November about entering shows/comps (any news on that WW ?) and I have learned in the past with other things that the best way to improve yourself is to put yourself out there and under pressure ! I noticed some shows are now inviting novice entrants so I was tempted to apply but the thought of standing next to some of the brilliant carvers out there with saw in hand very scary !!

fealt he same ;ast year Friargorse. had a chance to carve at Carrbridge but i bottled out (was a last minute invite) as i hadn't been carving long and hand't even seen anyone else carve, never ind seen a competition. I regret it, i should have entered and certainly will this year. Have contacted woodfest but nto had a reply yet, they dont seem to do novice entrants but have asked if they would consider it. if i get a reply i will pass it along

Yes Dervish let us know how you get on... I usually go to Woodfest each year and usually go to Scotland each year so I'll make it end of August and come and cheer you on !!! I dont think I have the confidence to compete ... I can only turn out reasonable stuff if I take my time and stop for a fag every 20 mins !! :blushing:
