Cracking video Rich

What a corking tree it was. What was the reason for removal?

Had the root plate shifted toward the building or was purely decay issues?

Shame some of the trunk wasn't retained as a monolith for biodiversity and nature education for the kids. But great to hear they had an assembly on it.

Really liked the way that the crane cast a shadow on the playground like a sundial, gave the piece a surreal temporal atmosphere

David. The tree had been in decline over the past few years. Grifola frondosa present an as the tree was situated right at the entrance to a busy school they reluctantly decided to remove and replant.

SL Treecare replanted with a copper beech after grinding the stump out. They chose CB due to the presence of the fungi and replanting another Oak probably wouldn't have been a good idea.

Steve is gonna send me a picture of the replanted. Keep the huggers happy.

Great vid, how long did it actually take to dismantle ?

Aaron had the crown out of the tree by about 11am. Had the trunk down by about 1.30 after a brew and lunch. All ready to go by 2.30 - 3 pm but we ended up waiting until 4.45 for the Grab lorries to remove the timber. If the lorries had been there all day then we would have been off site by 3.30 at the latest.

The stump was ground out on a different day.

Cheers Rich

I don't believe the Grifola would of been an issue for a replant, as from what I understand its really only a mature tree fungi interaction.

I've not noted (or read about) it on young trees.

Would of been a fine opportunity to have got the kids harvesting from that tree to create a replacement from its own progeny.

Now that would have been a good way to complete the circle of life of the trees place in its environment & its history.
