More restrictions on our human rights! more EU bureaucracy, telling us what to do!

We were discussing many of these topics last year, the licencing will come in anyway for sea-fishing, as our government wants it. As for the rest of the EU crap, well we'd be the only country following the rules as normal, so they can stick it:thumbdown:

From what I gather mate they want to restrict our right to roam the coastline too, no catch and release either....

I thought they had dropped the idea of a sea fishing licence? This seems to go even further.

 

Also its about time they changed the quota system to stop commercial fishermen chucking TONNES of fish back in dead just because the value is low. They should land ALL they catch & that weight come of the quota. They might target their catch better then. I mean what is the point of putting all that good food back in the sea dead & wasted?

The EU's fishing policy makes their agricultural policy look quite sensible, and that is saying something!

 

This could be a good thing in a way because angling is supposedly Britains most popular hobby / sport and therefore this may attract enough attention to actually get the government off its arse and do something about the way our fisheries are managed.

 

I thing we do need management of fisheries but the qouta system of throwing fish, dead, back in to the sea is crazy. Speak to an old angler and ask what catches were like 50 years ago or look at the catches for particular ports and you can see the massive decline in stocks. Basicaly we got too good at it and modern trawlers can find and catch more fish than there is out there. Perhaps we should make them use the boats and technology of the 19thcentury to even things up a bit.

 

Personaly I'd like to see marine reserves where rod and line fishing is allowed but no commercial fishing, these should be large inshore areas where hopefuly fish could breed and grow relatively un-molested.

i thought there was no trawler fishing within 3 miles of shore?

I dont think there is, but to have any effect marine reserve areas would need to be very big, I just mean they should come right in to the shore.

Ha, tell the frenchies that, we came back in last summer from 15 miles out, and 2 french trawlers were just inside the 3mile mark. The skipper hailed them on the radio and they replied they'd mis-read the sat-nav! They did, eventually haul their nets and move further out! Thing is, no-one really regularly patrols the coastline to catch them, its just the local skippers who ask them to move, and of course not all of them take any notice.

They have done this in the states! In some the income from sport fishing way exceeds the previous income from commercial fishing and the fish stocks are booming. See the link for details:http://mpa.gov/

 

 

I can't see the EU allowing any country to do this though, especially the UK. We'll just do whatever they say as usual and set up a whole load of regulatory non jobs to collect fines/license fees etc.
