First time Self employed

I've very recently been given the opportunity to go self employed as a junior climber/groundie for which i'm actually terrified off.

Has anyone got any advice they would care to share as this is completely new to me. Sounds pathetic i know.

Much obliged

Make sure you have regular, reliable work and don't rely on only a couple of sources of work as if they dry up, you are in trouble. Don't be afraid to charge what you need to charge-you won't help yourself by cutting your own throat. Finally, be keen, punctual, reliable and don't pretend you can do something you can't. Good luck! :001_smile:

Take the opportunity if it's the only one open to you, but if I was in your situation and someone offered me full time job instead I'd be taking the job, ppe provided, training provided, equipment provided, no one spends time teaching subbies, so if your really happy and confident with your current abilities then go self employed. Oh and if you do don't forget that if you manage to make enough money the tax man still wants his share

this job is wet, cold, frustrating, hard, sore , painful, exciting, scary and self employment is scary!!

All of the above will let you know you are alive, it great, it's exciting, cool and you will get out in the big wide world and meet some interesting, crazy, wierd, enthusiasticly brilliant people!

You lack confidence, that's perfectly natural, achievement will increase this and before you know it, you will be in a position to give others advice .

Charge on and don't let others put you off course:)

Agreed.

Also, Im not sure how many people have subby work for an inexperienced climber.

Sorry about the negativity but's also reality.
