Tree distance from house

Good evening all.

Could anyone offer any advice as to whether the tree pictured here is 'too' close to the house? The picture isn't particuarly well scaled but the tree trunk is roughly in line with the door and the distance from door to trunk is just over 6 meters.

The house is a new build, the tree has a TPO on it. The house was built taking into account the root protection area. The tree is a purple maple and is approx 10 meters tall. The council tree officer has advised that tree crown reduction would most likely be approved.

We had an arborist look at it and they advised that they didn't expect it would cause any problems. The house is in Lancashire - so a wet climate and not particuarly clay soil.

Any input greatfully recieved!

looks like a new ish property

therefore an Arb implication study & a Bs5837 should have been undertaken ,, check with planning dept

also check with building control as they have likely called for deeper foundations & possibly a root barrier to mitigate any influence

this is general advise not specific but checks that can be easily made

trees do on occasion cause physical issues as they contact dwellings / structures built environment

however the major issue arrises through their uptake or not of mositure as they uptake fluid & minerals through their normal life cycle ,, premature removals can in circumstances cause heave the opposite effect of subsidence

I would suggest you do some home work & seek local qualified guidance

Thanks both for the replies. Struggling to get a picture linked but fingers crossed this will work: TreeHouse_zpsfee0983a.png

Paul, the tree officer advised that if we applied for 'cyclical' (presumably every couple of years) permission to perform a crown reduction this would most likely be approved.

Hi Shippers and welcome to the forum.

The answer to your question depends on what factors you are considering for 'too close'. Do you mean too close because you are worried about damage to the building from

a) roots

b) the tree failing on to the house....or are you worried about shade to the front windows and leaf litter.....etc?

NHBC standards should have been followed when determining the foundation depth so I would say that future damage from subsidence is unlikely, particularly if you are not on a clayey soil.

As for the rest - well it's entirely personal. Some people love having trees close by but others see them as a burden.

Personally I would do nothing to the tree for a few years and make sure that it actually survives having been built around...a tree report may well have been written that specified protection during construction but I bet that the soil under that lovely new turf is pretty compacted and full rubble under the topsoil.

Thanks for the reply Paul. My concerns surround potential damage to the property caused by the root system directly/indirectly. I'm inclined to believe that this shouldn't be an issue since the tree was there first and the house built around it but welcome more experienced views!
