the tree is tpod ,with this fungi and the cavity would the tree be in immediate danger? obviously its on a downward spiral has lost limbs last year and this the home owner is concerned for children and racecourse parking neighbouring below would you think we can dismantle under the 3ds of tpo law

Bump.......

I've found this on the buttress roots of a sycamore. What drew my attention initially was the profuse fruiting of the tree.

Further investigation today hasn't shed any new light. No symptoms of armillaria or other fungi. It was blowing a gale, but no signs of untoward rootplate movement. No signs of damage to the buttresses or dead bark/cambium.

This fungus from what I can find is saprophytic, but this isn't adding up.

Pictures help a great deal, if there is no obvious signs of cambium death or cavity formation (have you tried atap with a mallet?) dont panic

3ds now 2ds (2012 Regs) no 'dying' anymore, as ambiguous, n if alledging 'dangerous' needs substantive evidence, usually within an arb report.

Cheers..

Nothing to take pictures off Tony. Identified with Gerrits book, as sure as I can be. Poked and prodded the bark, white mycelium from the L. pyriforme (or is it Morganella pyriformis now?), but everything is sound. I will call back and tap it though.

I get peeved when I can't explain things (to myself). Books say present on stumps and deadwood, this appears to be healthy and living. The seed production of the tree may or may not indicate other issues.

I'm not panicing (yet:blushing:) but truly hate not knowing why it's present where it shouldn't be.
