a little guidance please...

i'm wanting to do the tech cert(qcf4) but having missed the enrolment date and the next one almost a year away i think i would benefit from taking one of the level 2 courses in the meantime.

my dilema is which one. ive done some ringing around and some searching of the net but i'm still unsure which is going to be the most beneficial. if anyone could highlight key benefits of either or even any other suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

many thanks.

Hi Dave,

Don't overlook the ISA Certified Arborist see International Society of Arboriculture or Euro. Tree WOrker / Tree Technician see EAC -

Good luck..

thanks for the reply paul.

i meant the isa cert arb when i wrote isa2. really looking for a distinction between that and the rfs cert arb and if there is a particular advantage to one over the other. also what the training options are for both. its been a struggle finding information on them. as both quals are governed by different bodies they couldnt give me a comparative example when i spoke to either parties.

anyone whos done either or experienced both that could shed any light please do. thanks.

Alright Dave i have done both did the RFS first and enjoyed it thought it was a good course learnt a lot think it benifited me to have tutors to be able to ask questions to. I then did the ISA because i wanted to refresh myself with a few things i found this quite easy in comparison to the RFS but maybe that was because i had already done lots of study on those subjects. My advice would be to do the RFS think it was more in depth in the subjects good p and ds soil science etc. hope this helps without rambling to much cheers

thanks tom.

am i right in thinking that essentially both certs are of an equal or does one hold more weight than the other? the syllabuses seem to be similar so is it that one just covers slightly more than the other or are they pretty much the same course?

I think the RFS is more comprehensive but the ISA is a good home study option. If I wanted to learn more and go onto the level 4 I would like to do the RFS first. Having said that you may well have missed the boat on the RFS so ISA would fill the time till the level 4 comes up again.

good info. i'll have to look further into course availability. i know the isa can be done anytime and the next assessment date is april, not sure how i stand with the rfs although that course is sounding more favourable, sods law! thanks for the advice.
