An old tree fell over in our garden the other month, I've only ever seen it covered in Ivy and don't know exactly what it was underneath.

 

So could someone Id it please, I think it looks like a sweet chestnut but I'm happy to be corrected.

I was thinking False Acacia - Robinia. The top pic has better colour, i.e. yellow wood in the bottom lump. The second pic's blue and white.

Thanks guys, I can't honestly say I'd ever seen a leaf on it in 15 years. It came down a few weeks ago and a neighbour has been squireling it off for firewood. I saved a few chunks for chairs :-)

 

The main trunk is still laying on its side needing attention at some point, it was completely rotten at the base almost half way through.
